Junior Fellow
Marc Julienne is a Junior Fellow within the Defence and Security Programme at Asia Centre, since April 2013. His area of research covers China’s security policy, military affairs as well as foreign policy. He graduated from the French National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilisations (INALCO, Paris), with a Master’s Degree in International Relations, specialised on Asian Studies and Chinese.

In the context of the leadership transition in India, where do China-India Strategic relations stand and how will they evolve? While territorial disputes in the South China Sea are exacerbating, China-India border issues are still not settled, and military border monitoring is increasing on both sides, as well as infrastructure development (road and railways). The China-launched Silk Road Economic Belt project with Pakistan - passing through the Indian-claimed Jammu and Kashmir provinces - is a serious source of concern for Delhi, as is the China’s presence in the Indian Ocean. Finally the Afghan issue remains a potential of cooperation or conflict.
