Le Tigre face au Dragon : vers une redéfinition de la relation sino-malaisienne dans un contexte politique inédit – Victor Germain

Deepened under Najib Razak’s tenure, the China-Malaysia relations became a central issue in the Malaysian public debate before the general elections in May 2018. Mahathir Mohamad was elected on the promise to cancel all the Chinese mega-projects which are judged non-beneficial for the Malaysian economy. Concurrently, the new Prime Minister tries to reaffirm Malaysian sovereignty without cutting ties with Beijing. Strongly criticized by the opposition, this policy is wildly supported among Malaysians. However, some of them have doubts on the governmental method to restore Malaysian sovereignty. Although debate on foreign policy is unusual in Malaysia, it remains quite limited.
