Cybersécurité et censure de l’internet en Chine à la veille du 19e Congrès du PCC: le contrôle pour la sécurité ou la sécurité pour le contrôle – Margot De Groot Van Embden, Camille Liffran

Since the enactment of the China’s Cybersecurity Law in November 2016, and its enforcement on June 1st, the Chinese authorities introduced a series of regulations and measures aimed at supplementing the law and enforcing the longterm campaign for «cleaning and standardizing» the internet. Several provisions of the law and recent measures raised concern among foreign observers, but also among Chinese intellectual and political figures. While some of them worry about the economic consequences of increasing control over content and data on the internet, others are alarmed by a tightening web censorship and potential infringements on civil liberties justied by the new jurisdiction. Beyond those expressed concerns, the Internet crackdown coincides with an upcoming critical political agenda,concerns, the 19th Congress of the Communist Party opening on October 18.
