India is the least visible regional participant in Afghanistan. However, bilateral relations between the two countries go back for many years. While it may have been turbulent, the relationship between the two countries has become stronger since the fall of the Taliban regime in 2001. New Delhi has invested significantly, both politically and economically, in the country. The arrival of a new president in Kabul (Ashraf Ghani, sworn in at the end of September) to replace Hamid Karzai should not affect the situation.
